Rare Vintage # 602C “early” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used
Maker: Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT; circa 1900-1908
A rare “early” Bedrock series 7 ½” smoother plane with corrugated sole by Stanley. Plane is a Type 3 produced between 1900-1908. Body has “B” casting mark behind frog. Iron has the Stanley Patent Applied 19.92 imprint. Lever cap reads Stanley R.& L. Co. BED ROCK identifying this plane as a Type 3. The “early” series of Bedrock planes are characterized by the rounded top of the sides of the plane body, a smaller front knob and the early type of frog used in these planes. This particular example reflects wear from original use including some pitting on sides and sole but is in very good condition and fully functional – iron requires sharpening/honing. Original Japanning is about 50%.
