Maker:  H. Chapin, New Hartford, CT; circa: 1860

An antique American handled screw arm plow plane by H. Chapin.  Body is made of quarter sawn beechwood with nice figuring.  Lower part of fence is boxwood dovetailed into beech portion of the fence.  Some checking on nose and chips on arm screws. Bruising to wedge and tip of the tote – otherwise in good overall condition. All parts including iron are original.  Screw arms nuts turn freely and fully secure arms at desired setting.  Plane is fully functional and can be used as originally intended (iron requires sharpening/honing).  Makers mark imprint is visible on nose of the plane.
