Maker:  Sherman Brothers, New York City; circa 1853-1873

A rare antique American handled screw arm plow plane by Sherman brothers.  Very good condition, all parts including iron are original.  Plane body is beechwood; arm nuts are boxwood.  Minor bruising on wedge and minor chipping on front of fence.  Screw arms nuts turn freely and fully secure arms at desired setting.  Plane is fully functional and can be used as originally intended (iron requires sharpening/honing).  Makers mark imprint is visible as shown in nose photograph.  Pollak “American Wooden Planes”, 4th edition rarity rating:  2 stars: (rare).
