Maker: Middleton & Dyson, York, GB; circa 1791-1798 

A very rare 18th century 2” single iron molding plane from Great Britain.  Plane is fully functional (iron requires sharpening/honing).  Plane body is beechwood with boxwood wear strip.  Maker’s mark is obscure in photo but imprint is visible on nose of plane.  All parts/hardware are original.  Overall very good condition with some minor bruising on wedge and an old chip out of the top front of the body (visible in photos) and a stable minor crack in the boxwood wear strip behind the iron.  The W.L. Goodman, 3rd edition (revised by Jane and Mark Rees, 1993), British Planemakers from 1700 rates this planemaker’s product as very rare.
