Rare Vintage # 604 “early” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used
Maker: Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT
A rare Stanley “early” Bedrock series 9” smoother by Stanley. Plane is a Type 3 produced between 1900-1908. The “early” series of Bedrock planes are characterized by the rounded top of the sides of the plane body, a smaller front knob and the early type of frog used in these planes. April 1995 patent embossed into body behind frog. “B” casting mark behind frog. Manufacturer’s imprint on iron consistent for Type 1-3 planes. Lever cap reads STANLEY R&L CO. BED ROCK used on Type 1-3 early Bedrock series. This particular example reflects minimal wear from original use and overall is in excellent condition with better than 80% of the original Japanning intact. Fully functional – iron requires sharpening/honing.
