Rare Vintage # 604C “early” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used
Maker: Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT
A scarce “early” Bedrock series 9” smoothing plane with corrugated sole by Stanley. Plane is a Type 3 produced from 1900-1908. The “early” series of Bedrock planes is characterized by the rounded top of the sides of the plane body, a smaller front knob and the early type of frog used in these planes. April 1995 patent cast into body behind frog. Raised “B” mark behind frog in bed. Manufacturer’s imprint on iron consistent for Type 3 planes. Lever cap reads STANLEY R&L CO. BED ROCK used with the Type 3 early Bedrock series. This particular example reflects minimal wear from original use some slight staining on sides and sole and an overall excellent condition with estimated 80% of the original Japanning intact. Fully functional – iron requires sharpening/honing.
