Rare Vintage # 605C “later” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used
Maker: Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT
A rare Stanley “later” Bedrock series 14” jack plane with corrugated sole by Stanley. Plane is a Type 5 produced in 1911. This series of Bedrock planes is characterized by the squared off top of the sides of the plane body, a taller front knob and a major innovation in the construction of the frog that is still utilized today by modern day makers of the original Bailey/Stanley type metal planes. April 1995 and April 1910 patents cast into body behind frog. Manufacturer’s imprint on iron consistent for Type 4/5 planes. Lever cap reads Stanley BED ROCK used with the Type 4/5 later Bedrock series. This particular example reflects minimal wear from original use and overall is in excellent condition with 80% plus of the original Japanning intact. Fully functional – iron requires sharpening/honing.
