Scarce #603 “later” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used
Maker: Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT
A scarce “later” Bedrock series 8” smoother plane by Stanley. Plane is a Type 6 produced from 1012-1921 and has the “Stanley Tools” applique still intact on the left side of the tote. This “later” series of Bedrock planes is characterized by the squared off top of the sides of the plane body, a taller front knob and a major innovation in the construction of the frog that is still utilized today by modern day makers of the original Bailey/Stanley type metal planes. April 1995 and April 1910 patent cast into body behind frog. Type 6 trademark on iron. Lever cap reads BED ROCK. This particular example reflects some “dings” to the lever cap and some heavy scratches to the sole but overall is in good condition with 90%+ original japanning on the body. Fully functional – iron needs sharpening/honing.
