Scarce # 608C “later” Bedrock Stanley Plane, Used

Maker:  Stanley Rule & Level Co, New Britain, CT

  • A scarce “later” Bedrock series 24” jointer plane with corrugated sole by Stanley.  Plane is a Type 5 produced in 1911.  This was the introduction of the “later” series of Bedrock planes characterized by the squared off top of the sides of the plane body, a taller front knob and a major innovation in the construction of the frog that is still utilized today by modern day makers of the original Bailey/Stanley type metal planes.  April 1995 and April 1910 patents cast into body behind frog.  Type 4/5 trademark on iron.  Lever cap reads STANLEY BED ROCK used with the Type 4/5 “later” Bedrock series.  This particular example reflects normal wear from original use including minor pitting to the sole in one small area midway along the sole.  Overall, the plane is in good condition with about 50% of the original Japanning intact.  Fully functional – iron needs sharpening/honing.
