A scarce 8” transition smoother by Bailey/Stanley. The exact type is unknown but could be a Type 6 based on the early lateral used on this plane (no circular disk). The imprint on the nose of the plane reads L. Bailey, Patent, Dec 24 1867. There is no imprint on the iron or chip breaker. The lever cap has a pebbled surface. This particular example reflects normal wear from original use but overall is in good condition with wood parts in very good condition.
