$525.00

Very rare antique American handled screw arm plow plane; used

Maker:  L.B. Bigelow, Providence, RI; circa 1831-1853

A very rare antique American handled screw arm plow plane by L.B. Bigelow.  Typically, most planes were made of beechwood with boxwood used for arms and nuts.  This example is all boxwood except for the wedge. Great patina.   All parts including iron are original.  Excellent condition save for some minor chips on the arm screws and a stable crack in one of the inner nuts.  Screw arms nuts turn freely and fully secure arms at desired setting.  Plane is fully functional and can be used as originally intended (iron requires sharpening/honing).  Makers mark imprint is visible as shown in nose photograph.  Pollak “American Wooden Planes”, 4th edition rarity rating:  3 stars (very rare).
